New Article Looks at Store Design Trends for Women

April 08, 2008 // Franchise Update // Greenville, Wis. – In his newest article, "Feminine Appeal: Designing for Female Consumers," Troy Schwehr explores how elements of store design can be modified to appeal more to women. "Research has shown that women's influence over purchase decisions has increased considerably from years ago and shows no sign of stopping," says Schwehr. This means retailers –especially those in traditionally male-dominated markets, will need to start thinking in terms of what women want in order to remain competitive.

Tackling the "more noticeable" aspects of store design, Schwehr's article begins by discussing color. He then moves on to displays and layouts and finishes with some talk on signage. "Pretty much anything can be given a feminine makeover," says Schwehr. "The trick is to incorporate design elements in a way that doesn't completely alienate the other demographic."
