Maine Law Banning Marketing to Minors Repealed
| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
MARCH 15, 2010 |
March 15, 2010 // Franchising.com // A controversial Maine law passed last year banning the use of personal information about minors for marketing purposes has been repealed. The new Maine law that takes it place is much more narrowly tailored to prohibit use of information collected online from minors for the purpose of marketing pharmaceuticals. A minor is defined as a person 13-16 years of age.
Under the new law, the Attorney General is required to establish specific rules, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, governing the collection and use of personal information collected on the Internet from a minor for the purpose of pharmaceutical marketing.
