Faegre & Benson Reveals Secrets to Winning Trade Secret Cases

March 02, 2010 // Franchising.com // Minneapolis - Faegre & Benson is pleased to announce the publication of a new book: The Secrets to Winning Trade Secret Cases. Featuring a unique approach to presenting legal information, the book focuses on how to win in trade secrets litigation. The authors share their own "trade secrets, "—their litigation strategies—in an engaging, easy-to-read format punctuated with witty illustrations. The book is authored by the firm's winning team of trade secrets litigators, led by Randy Kahnke and Kerry Bundy.

"We have approached the book in the same way we approach clients, judges and juries: through clear, practical, and entertaining communication that reveals how the law can strategically advance business goals," said Kahnke, the head of Faegre & Benson's business litigation practice. "Practical advice is particularly important in this space because we are on the cusp of critical decisions by the Supreme Court that could change the scope of patent protection and further elevate the importance of trade secrets law." Kahnke says the book clearly outlines the results of significant research and the lessons that the firm's litigation team has learned over the course of many years and by winning hundreds of cases in the U.S. and globally.

"There are many books on trade secret law," said Bundy, a trial lawyer and co-leader of Faegre & Benson's trade secrets practice. "But most focus on theory or are guides for protecting trade secrets in advance of litigation. Our book fills the void by focusing on winning during trade secret litigation."

The book's practical advice is beneficial to most all companies, because most all have trade secrets. It is written for both in-house lawyers and business people—many of whom have already praised the book.

The book can be used as a complete guide as well as a quick reference tool. It was designed to be a valuable and important part of any legal library, yet is written and illustrated in a tone that helps diffuse the stress of high-pressure trade secrets litigation situations.

The Secrets to Winning Trade Secrets is published by and available for purchase directly from Thomson-West. To keep businesses apprised of the latest developments and strategies in trade secrets law, Faegre & Benson will release annual editions of the book.

Praise for The Secrets to Winning Trade Secrets:

"A unique combination of Trade Secrets 101 and advanced Trade Secrets. No Judge's chambers should be without it."—The Honorable Donald D. Alsop, United States District Court Judge

"The surprisingly amusing The Secrets To Winning Trade Secret Cases adroitly explains a broad range of complex trade secret issues in an easily understandable way that in-house counsel will find invaluable in educating clients on these important legal issues." — John McBroom, Senior Attorney, International Business Machines Corporation

"This book is a must have for anyone wading into the deep end of trade secret litigation. Providing practical insights, including tips and tricks, it's a natural choice for both lawyers and their clients."—F. Scott Kieff, Professor at George Washington University Law School and Ray and Louis Knowles Senior Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution
